Guest blog: Curious Orange Pop Up Shop

When opportunity strikes you have to grab it with both hands and run – a wonderful sentiment, but admittedly a little daunting even for the most adventurous.

Arriving home 3 weeks ago to the beeping of an email from the Empty Shops Network with the subject ‘Portobello Road – a lovely empty shop on London’s famous Portobello Road is available for pop up projects’. In my rush to email the contact I dropped my groceries, sacrificing a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc along the way.

And so it came to be that on Saturday 20th October, our year old online boutique – Curious Orange – moved into 335 Portobello Road.

We were fortunate enough to have friends from Mettes Woodwork, Modish Shoes and Design Essentials who were willing to collaborate, enabling us to furnish the space beautifully and cost effectively and increase our product offering.

There’s espresso in the AM and bubbly in the afternoon as we are trying to create a luxurious, unpretentious atmosphere where you can make use of the furniture on sale while doodling in our guest book or trying on one-off designer clothing which is imported from independent designers not currently available in the United Kingdom or Europe.

Visit us at 335 Portobello Road from 10am to 6pm each day until 5pm on Sunday 28th October 2012. Join us for late night shopping and drinks on until 10pm on Wednesday 24th October.

We are hugely grateful to our landlords at Urban Bliss and our wonderful collaborators Mettes Woodwork (furniture), Modish (shoes) and Essential Designs (lighting and interiors).

Nikki, Alex and Nick (the Curious Orange team) run an independent online store based…online. Yeh, watch out for their dry humour. Based in the UK they’re a small store with big ambitions
