  1. Hi dan

So impressed with you site and your creativity. Very inspiring!

I run a new sewing school in Winchester but being chucked out of the studio by the landlady who wants to use the space for her own business.

So looking at the idea of pop up in the town running alongside it a shop selling local handmade craft designer stuff ( think Etsy). But want to do social events, basically create a hub where lots of stuff happening. Think look mum no hands, the maker, beyond the border type vibe.

Anyway, wondered if you could offer or signpost me any words of wisdom. I know that’s a big ask and a big question, sorry! Not expecting an essay just tips.

I think I’m just looking for advice on how to approach landlords and sell the idea and what they like to hear.

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks in anticipation.

    Wendy

    • Hi Wendy, just reading your message from last year and wondering how you got on? I am involved in the restoration of Southampton’s Antiques Quarter…… scruffy Victorian shops at the moment but heaps of potential!! Let me know if you’re interested in getting together with other artisans, restorers and artists? Ian

  2. hi there

hi, i am the Night club chaplain in Bournemouth. i am aware of many shops unused in the town and also artists that would like to use premises for cafes and shops… the problem seems to be the rates charged when premises become reused, this stops creatives and charities taking over spaces. i know there are a number here willing to explore posibilites and wonder if you can help. i would be happy to arrange a consultation with you and some key players here later in the year or early next year.

    thanks, michael

  3. Hi Dan,

I’m writing to you on behalf of Leeds University’s Collaborative Arts Society.

We are really interested in finding more spaces where we can hold our events and exhibitions, your empty shops network looks like a fantastic project and we were wondering if there could be any way our society could get involved?

Hope to hear from you soon,

    Jenny

  8. Am a very new member of my town council. we have an increasing number of empty shops around the Cross in the centre of town. I would like to propose. To councillors that we help local artist and other groups use the windows to publicise themselves . Could you advise me on matters such as insurance and rates, and anything else I am likely to be asked about, or point me in the right direction
